Get To Know Your Wardrobe

Ladies, meet your wardrobe. And, by that I mean, in fact I whole-heartedly recommend, you delve in deep and see what’s actually there. I love, love, LOVE sifting through and finding that thing I forgot I had. It sparks a creative surge to see what I can make of a new, hidden and potential gem.

On the whole, however, we are all guilty of wearing the same several pieces over and over. Having a stream-lined wardrobe certainly makes life so much easier and straight-forward. And, it has to be said, having a good ‘ol clear out is ever so cathardic to get that desirable pared down wardrobe. But, when I clear a client’s wardrobe, there are always 3 piles: keeping, going and a ‘potential’ pile. That final pile is where you can roll up your proverbial sleeves and get thinking outside the box. As in, ‘How can I make this work better and get it in regular wearable rotation’?

Those formerly hidden items should be thought of in terms of how to be altered and what additions can be made to bring out its best attributes. Think of what you can do to it or add to it to make it a go-to piece that will earn its keep in your day-to-day wardrobe. Adding a few things to make your frequent wearers tick over a bit more nicely is not really just a bonus, but more of a necessity. I am certainly not recommending stocking up to overflow level, but adding and altering smartly to make your wardrobe special and less run-of-the-mill.

Why not let loos your creativity and see what amendments can be made to make your look unique. As I have said before, fashion favours the bold! And remember, renew and reuse!!

Fashion Trends: Yay or Nay?

This is a question I encounter a lot … “Can I wear that at my age?” And its a subject of debate and much discussion amongst Image Consultants. The thing is, there is no right or wrong answer per se. What works for one woman would be totally wrong on another. Let’s take an example…

Holiday Wear (part deux)

On holiday, as I have mentioned before, one makes comparisons. And now I put to you this comparison to consider. French vs American Style As an American who has lived overseas now for over 10 years, I feel I can make an objective assessment on this issue. Further, I felt it would be a lively…

Mon Dieu!

Upon a recent holiday in Paris, I decided to visit some of my favourite upscale lingerie shops to get a few intimates to update my flagging collection. This was going to require stepping way out of my comfort zone as usual as the assistants are always front and present on any occasion I have frequented…

Inspiration with a new cherished favourite

I was reading an article recently about a journalist who was given a Chanel classic jacket to wear for a month.  The deal was she had to wear it daily and reinvent it regularly to get the most out of it.  And all I have to say is what an inspiration! Firstly, the idea that…

Ode to Nostalgia

Every time I go to a summer festival or head to vintage store, I see them, these women ( and occasionally, men too) who have totally given over to dressing in a particular time era. And, every time, without fail, I think, ‘Wow, I deeply and completely respect their commitment!’ I wish I could dedicate…

Holiday Wear

To be stylish or comfortable-that is the question! This is a frequent internal debate for women at this time of year when preparing to go on holiday. A friend recently recounted for me her pre-holiday packing drama which consisted on many frantic, sweaty hours of packing and repacking various compilations of outfits based on whether to…

The Essential Scarf

Never outdated, and certainly never underused, the scarf is a daily basic that is both essential and very much loved. Having a scarf, for so many of us, is absolutely crucial (think of January and February without it-perish the thought!) But, beyond its functionality, it’s a final flourish of your style statement. Thinking of it…

The Joys of Ebay

Ok, I know, this is not a new statement, to confess one’s love of ebay but it bears repeating and rediscovering. Firstly, let me just say that I am not addicted to ebay per se, but what a great site it truly is still! My relationship with it has primarily been based on selling, but…
